Globes 2008 Top 100 Businesses: Israel Chemicals At Top

(IsraelNN.com) The Globes Top 100 business rankings have been tallied, with Israel Chemicals taking the number one spot in 2008.  Africa-Israel dropped from first place in 2007 to eighth in 2008, following the decision by owner Lev Leviev to leave Israel and take up residence in London.

Israel Corporation, Israel Chemicals's parent company, rose to second place from seventh.  Delek Automotive Systems rose from twenty-first place to third, and Teva Pharmaceuticals rose to seventh place, up from twentieth in 2007.

The "Globes" Top 100 ranked the companies that created the most value between January 2000 and March 2008, taking into account share liquidity, company size, professionalism of the management, and predictions on the company's future performance.

One often hears the question, why do the Arabs in the Middle East have all the oil while Israel, the land promised to be overflowing with milk and honey, seems to have nothing? But one also needs to ask, has Israel's neighbor's oil been all that much of a blessing to them on a longer term? Suffices to ask at this stage, WHAT ELSE DO THEY HAVE in terms of intellectual property and industries, apart from those set up by other countries - mostly to manufacture weapons of mass destruction that don't contribute to GDP. In other words, what other than oil contributes to the gross domestic product of Israel and oil producing countries in the Middle East. (See arabs_just_oil; The
